I shouldn’t be encouraging this behavior.
Starred anyway.

You just get all misty eyed for academic-sounding prose. You’ve been reading too many dissertations.

I only read dissertations when I have trouble falling asleep.

Then you’d best not read mine. (It’s actually a treatise, and I haven’t looked at it myself in nearly 20 years. I’m sure it’s bloody awful.)

I like comedy.
And tragedy.
And especially musicals.

Then you’ll love my paper—it’s all about opera.

Kidding aside, The history and development of music is interesting to me. Music means many things to many people, and the changes in its form, availability, and distribution over the centuries must have changed its role in people’s lives.

Fun fact I learned long ago: most people don’t know that “opera” is plural, and when asked what the singular is, they have no idea.

I just went and watched the source footage for this meme. What a load of staged BS.

They blew it up for the show, but it wasn’t entirely staged. The two of them split after that fight, the son started his own shop, taking a number of the father’s shop employees with him, and after nearly a decade the two still aren’t on speaking terms.

Interesting how you worded that. Because I’ve always said that music history is all about change. You don’t really have to remember much more than how it all started, then remember what changed and who (famously) changed it. Like world history, nothing happens in a vacuum. They didn’t have a party at Bach’s house in 1685 to kick off the Baroque era. The Baroque era was the logical transition from the Renaissance.

Even better, air your family laundry on purpose for ratings.

LOL.
A quick story. When I was in the hospital recovering from my accident, and as soon as I was well enough to sit up in a wheel chair and go to therapy, I had my sister go buy me an Opus stuffty to ride in my lap. No one got it. Oh well, I did.

But I do like the idea of a Baroque party at Bach’s house.

I’m sure there would be plenty of wine. Do you know why JS Bach had 20 children?
![]() 04/10/2018 at 10:30 |

I dunno, because his wives spent all their time on their Bach?

Because his organ had no stops.

Oh, that’s good. Writing that down.
